QUBIC Cell and Brain Theme Workshop – Quantum approaches to study the proteinopathy of TDP-43

QUBIC staff and students from across our nodes are invited to join us for the Cell and Brain Theme Workshop. This is an exciting opportunity to come together for two days around Quantum approaches to study the proteinopathy of TDP-43.

Date: Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 October 2024
Location: Hotel TOTTO, Wollongong
Time: 10am start, Monday 14 October

Objectives
This is a combined themed workshop for Cell and Brain to focus on and set research plans for these themes, preview new results in the field and discuss how they can be applied to QUBIC research.

Description
Day 1: TDP-43 Biology/biochemistry + Workshop dinner
Physical, chemical and biological principles of phase-separation/condensation/aggregation and exciting new results in the field that we can focus on and medical implications

Day 2 AM: Quantum technologies (potential quantum approaches to study the proteinopathy of TDP-43 e.g. quantum sensing, quantum imaging, quantum simulation) + Lunch
Measurement techniques that can characterise dynamic and time-averaged characteristics of these processes (these may include FLIM, FRAP, super-resolution imaging, Raman-Brillouin, optical tweezers). Which techniques can measure which parameters, which techniques are complementary and which can be used as the reference/calibration for other. How to get to dynamic measurements and what would be the acquisition speed requirement to capture important dynamics?

Day 2 PM: Setting of research plan: define the big questions to tackle and research plan details

Cost
The workshop venue and accommodation costs are included as part of the workshop; however attendees will be required to fund their own travel arrangements.
