Abstract
This presentation will provide a synopsis of IBM’s quantum computing efforts to develop and scale quantum technology. It will describe milestones on the Development and Innovation Roadmap to deliver client-facing systems and services, which will precede a general overview of potential applications of quantum computing for various industries. Pertinent examples of use cases in the finance, aerospace, and automotive sectors that have been explored with IBM quantum devices will be highlighted. Most of the talk will focus on quantum applications for chemistry, for which early efforts by IBM researchers will be described before focusing on more recent advances and highlighting remaining challenges.
Bio
Dr. Jones is a Research Staff Member and the Manager of the Quantum Applications group at IBM Research – Almaden. He is also the Technical Lead for the Working Group for Health Care and Life Sciences (HCLS). Dr. Jones completed his Ph. D. in theoretical/computational organic chemistry at the University of California Los Angeles prior to postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined IBM Research in 2010 as a postdoctoral researcher and became a Research Staff Member in 2013.
Networking morning tea
Following the seminar, please join your node for a World Quantum Day morning tea and networking opportunity.
