Carla Verdi

Dr Carla Verdi is a Lecturer and ARC DECRA fellow at the University of Queensland. She received her PhD from the University of Oxford in 2017, where she remained as a post-doctoral researcher until 2018. From 2019 to 2022, she was a post-doctoral researcher and teaching assistant at the University of Vienna. In 2023, she moved to the University of Sydney as an ARC DECRA fellow, and later the same year she joined the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Queensland as Lecturer and ARC DECRA fellow. Dr. Verdi is a condensed matter and materials physicist with expertise in the theory and simulation of materials from first principles. Her research currently focuses on materials for advanced optoelectronics and quantum technologies, such as single photon sources for quantum computing and sensing. She also explores the use of first-principles methods, molecular dynamics, and machine learning to understand materials at finite temperatures.
